# Refer a Friend

> Share your referral link to give friends an extra free month and earn free months yourself

## Give a Free Month, Get a Free Month

Every Monophonic account comes with a personal referral link. Send it to another artist, and when they sign up:

There's no limit. Refer five friends who stick around and that's five free months.

## Finding Your Link

### Or just share your code

Under your link you'll see your 8-character code on its own. Friends who'd rather sign up the normal way can type it into the **Promo or Referral Code** field on the signup form. Promo codes and referral codes both go in that one field, so there's nothing to figure out.

<Tip>Codes leave out characters that look alike, so there's no I, L, O, U, zero, or one to mix up. Capitals don't matter either, and we ignore any spaces or dashes.</Tip>

## Getting Your Free Month

Your reward arrives when your friend's first real payment goes through, which is after their trial ends and their first invoice is paid. Until then the referral sits as **pending**.

When it lands, we email you to say you've earned a free month, and the credit is applied to your account. Your next invoice is reduced by that amount with nothing for you to redeem.

## Keeping Track

The Refer a Friend card shows two numbers:

| **Pending referrals**  | Friends who signed up with your link but haven't made their first payment yet |
| **Free months earned** | Referrals that have paid off, one free month each                             |

A friend can sit in pending for a while, since they've got 44 days of trial to enjoy first.

## Good to Know

* **Your friend has to use the link or code when they sign up.** We can't attach a referral to an account after the fact, so send your link before they create their account.
* **You can't refer yourself.** Using your own code on a new account does nothing.
* **The extra trial month doesn't stack with a longer promo trial.** If your friend has a promo code that's worth more than 44 days, they get whichever is longer, not both added together.
* **A wrong code never breaks a signup.** If a code is mistyped or expired, signup carries on as normal without the referral bonus.
* **You need your own subscription to collect.** If you're only helping manage someone else's site as an [editor](/team), there's no invoice to credit.
